Razorbacks Ready to Charge: Weyburn’s Junior Lacrosse Club Returns to the PGLL with Momentum

Apr. 04, 2025

Lacrosse fever is back in Weyburn — and it’s louder and fiercer than ever! After a thrilling debut season in the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League (PGLL), the Weyburn Razorbacks Junior Lacrosse Club is charging into 2025 with confidence, talent, and a hunger to dominate.

A Historic First Season

The Razorbacks made history in 2024, not just by stepping onto the PGLL floor for the first time, but by securing their first franchise win with a gutsy 9-7 victory over the Moose Jaw Mustangs. It was a game that set the tone — this team wasn’t here to just participate, they came to compete.

Offense That Can’t Be Ignored

At the heart of the Razorbacks' offense was breakout star Ryder Hignett, who lit up the scoreboard with 21 goals and 9 assists in just 12 games. Whether it was his jaw-dropping 7-point explosion against the Regina Barracudas or his clutch finishes late in tight matches, Hignett quickly became a name that every PGLL defender circled on the game plan.

And he didn’t do it alone. Sharpshooters Sam Borschowa and Jack Missal each added 6 goals, proving the Razorbacks have multiple weapons. Meanwhile, Nick Huntley and Landon Redman brought relentless energy and smart shot selection, chipping in 4 goals apiece and keeping defenses on their heels.

Wall Between the Pipes

While the offense turned heads, it was the Razorbacks' goaltenders who earned respect across the league. Kaylee Perry, with her cool under pressure and fearless shot-stopping, stood tall against some of the PGLL’s most explosive teams. Partnering with her was Matthew Charlton, a rock-solid presence in net who gave Weyburn every chance to win on game night.

And when needed, affiliate call-up Kalib Roy jumped in and held his own, showing that the Razorbacks’ goalie pipeline is already deep and battle-ready.

Taking on the Titans

Facing off against the PGLL’s powerhouse programs like Prince Albert and Saskatoon was never going to be easy — but the Razorbacks weren’t afraid to throw the first punch. In a doubleheader showdown against the defending champions, Weyburn scored first in both games, proving they could go toe-to-toe with the best. The experience they gained in those hard-fought battles? Priceless.

2025: The Charge Continues

With their foundation firmly set and a roster full of returning talent, the Weyburn Razorbacks aren’t sneaking up on anyone this season — they’re charging forward with the roar of a community behind them. Faster, stronger, smarter, and hungrier, this squad is ready to make some serious noise in 2025.

Whether you’re a lacrosse die-hard or brand new to the sport, you won’t want to miss what’s coming next.
